Bring To Me News

The great soccer blog Sideline Views is no more. It was one of the few blogs that I made sure I read EVERY DAY. Andrea Canales along with Luis Bueno had such great insight on the LA scene, and soccer in America and Mexico over all. I loved it. I am really bummed. But happy for them that other things are making this blog unmanageable. Andrea is now an editor at Goal.com. I know she will bring great stuff to them. Adios muchachos. See you soon, where ever you are.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

MLS has officially released a statement about Beckman and Milan. The teams are discussing a deal, but one is not done, and it will be very short term - not even 3 months. This means that if the deal is concluded that he would play games and not just practice with Milan.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I think it's a terrible move for the league and the team. What do they do if by some miracle this loan deal goes great and he loves it there????
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Grahame Jones of the LA Times has a better solution - he thinks the Galaxy should just get rid of Beckman altogether.

Soccer In America

So you should all know about Ethan Zohn and Grassroot Soccer. If you don't then I feel sorry for you. Hahaha. But Ethan's big project this fall is a fundraiser where he is dribbling a soccer ball from Boston to DC, yes all 550 miles! So far he is past NYC, but he has suffered an injury and cannot continue. The good news is that his friends and fellow Rootians are picking up the slack to dribble the ball the rest of the way. Check out what they are doing to fight Aids in Africa. Very cool.

Business Wire gives us one more reason to ditch Dish Network (who dropped GolTV) and hook up with Direct TV - they are adding the channel Telecentro which covers all of Central America and will bring us even more futbol! We can watch Saprissa from the Purple Monster on a regular basis! I will be switching providers as soon as the MLS playoffs end and my subscription to Direct Kick runs out.

It was great yesterday when I opened my email and got a message from none other than Rangers midfield general Barry Ferguson. It started off Dear Bruce, etc etc etc blah blah blah. He signed it, Thank you for your support, Barry Ferguson. And added his signature to the email. Nice touch. Yes it was a form email. Oh well. He did tell us though that he is over his ankle injury and needs just one more week to be fully ready for battle. Go cat go! I had no idea I even signed up for any Rangers mailing list. Or maybe I am becoming a very important person in the world of soccer media. Yeah, that’s it. Delusion is my friend. Now if I could just get Leslie Osborne and Marcel Mora y Aruajo to return my emails!

Jack Warner/Sepp Blatter/FIFA Idiocy & Scandal News

Andrew Jennings of Transparency in sport brings us a story that says Sepp Blatter had a car crash last Saturday that sent the other car rolling over 3 times. Wow. I don't think it's quite as sinister as Jennings would have us believe. Blatter appears to have acted as any famous person trying to avoid the press would act in this situation. Jennings also pokes at Blatter with little asides about environmental friendliness and stuff like that.

Houston really should have done better last night. They controlled the game for long periods but could not get anywhere close to finishing on a goal keeper who constantly flubbed the ball. All credit to the young pumas team, they really did a good job of luring in the Houston attack and then throwing a knockout punch when no one expected it.

That third Pumas goal by Palacios was sheer beauty, a goal off the heel coming from a corner!

Peterlee Pumas 23-16 Heckmondwike Panthers Early pressure paid dividends for the pumas when John Linsey opened the scoring after some fine work down the middle from Ross Turner sending him the final pass to go in under the sticks, Matt Williams converted for a 6-0 lead. Steven Donague scored next for Peterlee in the corner to give them a 10-0 lead before Heckmondwike then finally got off the bus and Dave Berry scored to cut the hosts advantage to10-4. Stuart Spiggut then went in for a try to bring Heckmondwike to within two points at 10-8. However, just before half time Ross Turner scored and Williams converted to put the Pumas 16-8 up at the interval. Early in the second half Williams dropped a goal to give his team a 17-8 lead. Berry and Spiggut then scored back to back trys to get the score to within one point at 17-16. Heckmondwike missed a goal kicker as with two minutes left, James Tyman scored for Peterlee for Williams to kick the goal and win the game 23-16.
