The Weathered Cryogen News

It was not pretty. It was not entertaining. It was a little nerve wracking. But it was one goal and a win for the USA in Cuba. 6 points from 2 games on the road is a good thing. But please, let's get the motor running. OK? Is that too much to ask?

~and~

Adam Spangler of This is American Soccer delivers Part 1 of a 5 part indepth story/interview with Clint Dempsey. Spangler went to London and get into the heart of what makes Deuce tick. See Americans In Europe section below.

Mike Woitalla of Soccer America did a Q & A with Clint Dempsey after the Cuba game.

Sports Illustrated had a photographer in Cuba and they give us some amazing shots, especially #22. Now that is heavy.

Great note from Steven Goff: Maurice Edu is listed on the official lineup sheet as "EDU, Edu" and was introduced by the public address announcer as "Freddy Adu."

du Nord 3 Stars Of The Game

3. Tim Howard - He only needed to make one crucial save and he did. Very late in the game a corner kick was deflected by Bocanegra toward the bottom corner of the net but Tim-may got there first and smothered any chance for a rebound and tying goal.
2. Oguchi Onyewu - Has this guy returned to top form again? He is actually better than ever. When was the last time he got a card? His menacing defending has been huge two games in a row, and his passing out of the back was flawless. What a monster.
1. Clint Dempsey - He did exactly what we need him to do. Get the all important goal. He did not have the best looking game, and was subbed out. He even had another great chance earlier in the game that he shot very softly. But again, he did the job and got his team the win.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

To counter balance these performances the USA had 3 players that were simply awful.
-DaMarcus Beasley
-Michael Bradley
-Maurice Edu
All three seemed to forget how to simply pass the ball. They gave away possession when they didn't need too. They attempted difficult/impossible passes when many simple options were available. Their pace was slow to plodding. And in the case of Beasley, he missed an open net, and botched 2 other great chances at goal to mercifully end the game. I would love to see all 3 on the bench come Wednesday night. Eddie Lewis, Sacha Kljestan and Ricardo Clark would make fine substitutions.

Open letter to Jack Warner: drop T&T and Suriname from the WCQ tournament because they are South American teams. Drop the second round to two groups of four (goodbye to Cuba and Haiti). These simple moves would make the tournament more exciting, and more challenging. Right now it is a waste of time and it is clear which teams are going to advance. And since you are from T&T yourself, get your ass out of CONCACAF. You should be CONMEBOL's problem, not ours.

I nominate Bruce to replace Jack Warner, and Chuck Blazer can be his shoe shine boy.
