What You Gonna Do News

Take note that the MLS game tonight, Columbus v Kansas City, is on ESPN, not ESPN2!

~and~

You have to be impressed by both Guadalajara Chivas and New England Revolution in this SuperLiga, but Guada has played both games on the road making them the strongest team so far. Round 3 coming up this weekend!

My notes from the games last night:
Revs v Tuzos
-Apparently Pachuca goal scoring machine Bruno Marioni had an injury and that is why we did not see him play last night.
-New England midfielder Pat Phelan was knocked out cold when he collided heads with teammate Sainey Nyassi going for a header. I looked really bad watching on TV as he was stretchered off the field in a neck brace, but he is going to be OK, suffering a concussion.
-Is Pachuca midfielder/forward Damian Alvarez good or what? I would take that guy on my team in a second.
-Old Sven Goren Erickson was in Gillette again last night watching his potential charges for Pachuca.
-Youngster Chris Tierney was thrown into the fire last night, getting the start at left fullback for the Rev's. He did a fine job. As did Amaechi Igwe starting at right fullback.
Goats USA v Guerreros
-When was the last time you were this impressed with the play of Carey Talley? Wow. The start of this season he really struggled in Salt Lake, but the past few weeks he has been fantastic.
-I was amazed at how young and inexperienced a team Chivas USA put on the field against Santos. But they held it together long enough for Chivas to sub in the veterans and snag the winner.
-Sacha Kljestan was great last night. He was everywhere, running, passing, defending. He lead that team with style. And his cross for Ante Razov to glance to the back post and score the games only goal was golden.
-Surprising to see Roberto Nurse in the first 11 for CUSA. They signed him Tuesday when the window opened, and he makes his debut a day later. Didn't show much, but he tried hard.
-Still trying to figure out how Santos didn't get at least one goal. They had what seemed like handfuls of chances.
-Jonathan Bornstein & Paulo Nagamura will miss the 3rd game due to Yellow Card accumulation.

MLS 2008 All Star Game News

The surreal just got weirder as more three players were added to this the All Star team. (Spots opened up when the USA Olympic roster was announced.) Steve Ralston we expected. But the other two almost don't even make sense - Jonathan Bornstein & Juan Toja. Are you kidding me. Does Toja even still play in the league? Still no Luciano Emilio or Javier Morales. It's borderline criminal now.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Some pinhead who "writes" for the Toronto Sun complains about the All Star games by claiming that "MLS was tossing out blockbuster dance partners: Barcelona and Liverpool...". I challenge this dude to produce one quote or press release or anything at all where MLS claimed those teams were gonna be the All Star team opponent. OK, they may have been speculated on in the press, but that is a whole different can of worms, one in which he couldn't complain about because he is a member of the press. What a joke this guy is.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

(Why do I care about this game???????????? Actually I don't care about this game. What winds me up is that the wrong players are being recognized and rewarded. I like it when people get credit for their efforts, not for their brand name.)

TRANSFER RUMORS

Young defender Steve Purdy who has been with the reserves at 1860 Munich looks to be moving on as he is currently getting a try out at legendary club Dynamo Dresden. (thanks to GS for the heads up)
-Dynamo Dresden has quite the past. At one time they were the Soviet & Stasi run team that was supposed to show the people pride and strength. After the wall came down they shed themselves of the drek and had great success, but this decade has killed them and they are currently in the 3rd division.

Last night I was watching the Mexican sports report and they showed new national team coach Sven Goren Erickson at Pumas training. But I knew he was in the USA watching SuperLiga games. What was going on? Turns out it was an impersonator pulling a fast one. He even had two babes with him in full evening wear. I doubt the Mexican authorities are amused.

Thank you for the two best pictures i've seen in a long time. The pic of the NSC is awesome, mostly because i can see myself. And Berbatov looks like such a badass.
