The 2007 du Nord MLS Best 11

Here is the best of the best, listed alphabetically, as adjudged by me here at du Nord:

Juan Pablo Angel - New York Red Bulls

Wade Barrett - Houston Dynamo

Landon Donovan - Los Angeles Galaxy

Luciano Emilio - DC United

Jesse Marsch - Chivas USA

Ben Olsen - DC United

Pat Onstad - Houston Dynamo

Michael Parkhurst - New England Revolution

Steve Ralston - New England Revolution

Eddie Robinson - Houston Dynamo

Juan Toja - FC Dallas

This list is always incredibly hard to create. Some names are completely obvious, but as you get to number 9 or 10 the names start to pile up and differences are miniscule. But in the end I think this list is pretty unstoppable.

Obviously there are at least a half dozen other fantastic players that almost got on this list, but for whatever reason they fell inches short at the finish line. Better luck next year.

I think it's hard to place Blanco into that team; displacing those four would be pretty difficult for anyone; he's not going to take over either forward spot, nor the 'hole' position that Donovan is in behind them. Given the 3-4-3 formation, you need Olsen and Marsh to hold things down in the middle, and I can't see Blanco being effective out wide.

I really like Brad Guzan or even Nick Rimando above Pat Onstad in goal. I'm not a Donovan hater, but I think this wasn't a top season for him. I don't know if you're including Donovan up front or right behind the forwards, but I think Eddie Johnson has to be included on this list. Johnson over Donovan I would say.

In my book, Blanco is one of the best 11 players in MLS (probably one of the best 3), but he wasn't one of the best 11 for 2007 because he only played in 14 games. That is 10 fewer games than anyone on this list.

Without Donovan, the Galaxy would have been Real Salt Lake.

No Schelotto. 5 goals 11 assists in 22 games does not get you on the list?

Eddie Johnson wouldn't even care. He'd be too busy jewelry shopping and getting his hair cut. (Johnson doesn't care about soccer)

I agree that, as good as Blanco was this season, I don't think he deserves to be on this list.

But Landon Donovan? C'mon!

Living near Kansas City, I find it hilarious and appropriate that when I click on "The Most Ardent Fans in Kansas City" I am taken to "Page Not Found."

So true. So true.

I share the sentiments about the absence of Blanco and Schelotto, but I'd like to add that there's an omission just as greivous: you've put Onstad over Guzan and Perkins. Ouch.

Landon? WTF? Mr Invisible shouldnt be in any best XI.

And why do you hate United so much?

Landon was outstanding all year, if you actually watch the games. His teammates make a hash out of his creative plays.

I would replace Marsch with Klejstian (sp?) he's been fantastic.
