Are you like me and been wondering what ever happened to Chicago goal scorer Damani Ralph. We haven't seen him in MLS in nearly 4 years. He hiked off to Russia for some cash but hasn't played in nearly 2 years due to a knee injury and two surgeries that didn't fix the problem. The Jamaica Gleaner with the story.

John Ellinger is going to walk away from Real Salt Lake finally. He was their head coach until mid-May when they fired him, then asked him to become the teams "Technical Director". I would assume they gave him this job cuz they were going to have to pay him anyway. But I have no idea how he stayed working there. I know I couldn't have done it. It's like getting dumped by a girlfriend then agreeing to still "be friends". I have no idea how people do that.

Got a great note from Bart in Malina about his life as a soccer fan and thought I should share it with all of you: I was in Hong Kong last week (Friday 27 July) to see the last pair of matches in the Barclay's Asia Trophy mini-competition. Fulham v. South China (Hong Kong FA Cup winners) and Liverpool v. Portsmouth. The Hong Kongers are absolutely nuts about the Reds and the sold-out (40k) stadium was a sea of red, even during the first match of the double-header involving 'the American' team (Boca and 2nd half sub McBride scored in the 4-1 Cottagers victory; Dempsey was nowhere in sight). On Saturday I visited one of the local markets where they have knock-off jerseys. There were strips for all the major national sides and 20 or so clubs. Only one from the MLS: the Galaxy, albeit the old yellow one. It's only a matter of time that Becks' jerseys start to be seen all over SE Asia. My 4 year old son already has one. As an aside, a buddy who lives in Manila but was visiting Bangkok in July spotted a Thai driver wearing a Real Salt Lake jersey. Seems the fellow has a friend working for Adidas and got the jersey from him.

I definitely was wondering about Damani Ralph. I remember him being an excellent player and perfect for a PSV type team. I had no idea he went to Russia, nor that he blew out his knee.

I wish him the best and hope he can return to form. At 26, he's still got plenty of time to rehab - I hope he realizes that and comes back strong.

That Red Bulls stadium image looks like a glorified farm shed.

the red bull practice facility image looks almost exactly like the community park building on my street

and of course being in minnesota that makes it a double use facility as park and farm shed

I wish the US would play friendlies against teams like Brazil. Is Catalonia even a real team? I know the Catalan region has been fighting for independence from Spain for forever, but I haven't heard any news about new countries being formed lately...
