The US Players Assoc has two conversations with players today:
-Marc Connolly talks to Chicago forward Chris Rolfe just as he is set to join the USA training camp on Jan 2.
-A Q & A with du Nord's hero & Houston's rumbling defender Craig Waibel.

I didn't see this week's edition of GolTV's American Soccer until last night, but they had Colorado coach Fernando Clavijo on the set and he said that he has talked to both Mexican Jared Borgetti and Costa Rican Paulo Wanchope about coming to his team for next season.

Mexican tabloids have reported the Chivas USA midfielder Juan Pablo Garcia has signed not with a European club, but with Tigres back in Mexico. I wonder if this is some of the same newspapers that said Paco Palencia signed with Tigres a couple weeks ago, and now we hear that is NOT true. Stand by.

There is a full slate of English Premiership matches all weekend long and right thru New Years Day. Unfortunately most of them are fairly pedestrian games. No real head clashes to speak of. Everyone will just try to grind out points and we will watch cuz very little else is on. One thing to watch for is if American defender Cory Gibbs takes the field for Charlton. The team is really banged up, beyond just being terrible. They need all the help they can get, and Gibbs needs to see the field badly. He has not played since he hurt his knee v Morocco while getting ready for the World Cup last May. Keep yer eyes open.

Not much in the way of big Euro matches this weekend, but there will be two in Holland:
Sat
Feyenoord v v Sparta Rotterdam - The Rotterdam derby, I bet this one has seen some wild days over the years!
Tue
Feyenoord v PSV - old rivals with PSV at the top of the table

Sevilla took the lead in Spain going into the Christmas and New Year break (with a game in hand) as they wiped out Deportivo La Coruna 4-0, while Barcelona returned from Japan to be tied 1-1 by Athletico Madrid, and Real Madrid was smoked at home 0-3 by Recreativo Huelva (ooohweeeee, I bet Capello was excited about that)!!! We have a race! The standings now look like this
37 Sevilla
34 Barcelona
32 Real Madrid

In just a couple hours here I am gonna head south to see my whole family for Christmas. I will not be back until next Wednesday. So in the mean time I want you all to have a Merry Christmas (Feliz Navidad), or a great weekend, whichever way you slice it. Take care, Bruce.
