Beef Burrito, With Extra Beef, Hold The Tortilla News

Chelsea striker extraordinaire Didier Drogba to Jack Bell of the New York Times: I like this team D.C. United. They are good and strong.

We have lost yet another American soccer groundbreaker. Atlantic Records President Ahmet Ertegun, who founded the New York Cosmos (along with his brother Nesuhi and Warner Bros. Pres Steve Ross) died yesterday at 83. Michael Lewis at Big Apple Soccer with more.
-I met Ahmet one time in the early 90's, (I worked in the music biz for a long time at Warner Bros.), and thanked him for the Cosmos. He was very gracious, but seemed surprised that someone at a music biz event in America remembered.

The Toronto Globe and Mail is reporting a completely crazy scheduling mess-from-hell - The Grand Prix of Toronto AND a U20 World Cup match are planned for the same day at Toronto's Exhibition Place. Both sides have set TV schedules and sold tickets without the other knowing about it, and say they can't change the date now. Technically, the soccer stadium is inside the race area! Let's see how they fix this one.

I really hope that Hugo Perez travels with the Victory when they come to Saint Paul. He was always one of those guys I wanted to be like when I was a kid.

Drogba? As a DCU fan, if we HAD to take him, I guess we'd manage.

They say that deaths always occur in 3's.

First Lamar Hunt, then Ahmet Ertugun.
Who will be next ?

I'm predicting it will be the elderly actress who played the grandmother in the Rodney Dangerfield soccer flick from many years ago, titled, "Ladybugs."

I beg to differ on your assessment of the Fiorentina season. It has only been awful because of the -15 point penalty imposed due to the match fixing scandal. Beyond that they have been playing well and would be in 4th place in Serie A if not for the penalty. I saw the Fiorentina/Milan game on Saturday and La Viola outplayed them most of the game, and looked at times like a world class team, with the exception of giving up the late goal in the 90th minute for a 2-2 draw.

Prandelli is a master coach and if he can continue to mold the team as he has been doing he will bring them greatness in years to come. One other thing: I have read how the match-fixing scandal has been hurting attendance in the Serie A this season. Yet I looked at the highlights from the Lazio match played in Florence 2 weeks ago and the stadium was packed to the gills. Same for the Milan match this past Saturday. The team has the full support of its fans and I believe they will be repaid handsomely in years to come.
