Big Phil Scolari is officially out of the running (he was in the running?) to become the next USA coach (or any other team for that matter), cuz he just signed a 2 year extension on his deal with Portugal.

Last week the First XI players were announced for the MLS All Star game v Chelsea on Aug 5. Three of those players, Ante Razov, Shalrie Joseph & Clint Dempsey, were removed from the squad because their teams will battle each other during the same weekend. (Which is a complete joke.) So, MLS All Stars (& DC United) coach Peter Nowak had to pick replacements, and also had to fill out the rest of his 18 man roster. He got to pick 5 of the extra 7, while league commissioner Don Garber picked the last 2 players. Here is who they selected:
Nowak picks:
Goalkeeper-
Joe Cannon - Colorado
Defense-
Bobby Boswell - DC
Midfield
Josh Gros - DC
Ronnie O'Brien - Dallas
Freddy Adu - DC
Pablo Mastroeni - Colorado
Forward
Nate Jaqua F - Chicago
Brian Ching - Houston
Garber picks:
Midfield
Richard Mulrooney - Dallas
Forward:
Alecko Eskandarian - DC

The Mayor of Boston wants Rev's to build a new stadium in "The City"!

DC keeper Troy Perkins will start against Chelsea a couple from now in the MLS All Star Game. He also went out and got himself a second job. This is for real. He is working at the First National Bank of Arizona in the DC area. He is a mortgage loan processor. At the teams home game last weekend there was a banner hanging at RFK that read: Troy Perkins Saves. And Loans! That is so damn awesome!

Clint Dempsey had his two game suspension reduced to one. And of course during that one game off his team lost badly.

Freddy barely avoids disaster. Really.

Here are the MLS scores from this past weekend:
New York 1-0 Colorado - Head coach Richie Williams gets his first win. Can anyone out there tell me why this game was played at 1pm on a Friday?
New England 1-3 Salt Lake - Salt Lake looked really really good in this road destruction of a team that was picked as the top dog by many in the pre-season. Their veterans lived up to billing and performed like they should every week. Amazing.
Chicago 2-3 Dallas - On the road and without several key starters, Dallas came from behind to win a great game! Kenny Cooper's goal was super. And Bobby Rhine's was sublime. Dallas also wins the Brimstone Cup for the 5 straight year. (The cup goes to the winner of the series between the two teams each season.)
DC United 3-2 Columbus - I don't know how Columbus managed to stay in this one, but it was close to being tied at the end despite DC basically controlling about 85 minutes of the game. I would say Columbus had 4 or 5 chances at goal all game and scored on 2, with near misses on the other couple. Sigi will get this team straightened out. Ben Olsen was a monster for DC. And his team looks really good regardless of their few mishaps in this one. I can't wait for a DC-Houston game (looks like we will have to wait until 9-30 in Houston).
Kansas City 2-3 Houston - This would now be the 6th loss in a row for KC. Miserable! Houston has become the 2nd best team in the league by far.
Chivas 0-0 Los Angeles - Many chances. Zero Results. Two teams with a lot of heart and energy who just don't have a decent quantity of skilled players on their rosters. If it was a boxing match Chivas would have won on points, but the game did not live up to it's billing overall.

MLS Goal Scoring leaders:
11 Ante Razov – Chivas USA
10 Brian Ching - Houston
9 Jaime Moreno – DC United
8 Carlos Ruiz - Dallas, Jeff Cunningham – Salt Lake, Taylor Twellman – New England

I swear this is true: the Red Bulls game was played in the middle of a weekday to allow some band (Bon Jovi, I think) to set up for a concert. Which was not that night, mind you, but like 48 hours later. No lie.

Rochester 5, Miami 4! Were they playing baseball? Or did all of the goalkeepers get red cards?
