So, at his press conference today Zidane apologized for his actions, but did not reveal what Materazzi actually said to him. Materazzi countered by saying his remarks were insulting but not racist, political, or religious, nor was it about ZZ's family. Then Materazzi went on to say how much he admired ZZ. If Materazzi is so damn noble then why doesn't he tell all of us what he said. That would make it all very simple and end it quickly. This is so moronic. Zidane is an idiot for what he did. And Materazzi has always been and always will be an idiot for nearly everything he does on the pitch.

Materazzi and Del Piero got on stage last night with the Stones at the San Siro. Keef tried to head-butt Materazzi, but missed and cracked his head again.

And in other Inter-Italy-World Cup news, left back Fabio Grosso who took the ugly dive against Australia, then hit the gorgeous game winner against Germany has left Palermo and signed with Inter for this next season. This has been one of Inter's most inconsistent spots on the field for years, so maybe they got their man.

Did you know that European Cup qualifying starts in mid-August, and magically on September 6 Italy must go to Paris to play France! How awesome is that.

Two more lingering thoughts from the World Cup final: After the match ended, did you see where the Italian players gathered around Camoranesi and cut off his ponytail? And did you see Gattuso running around the field in his tighty whiteys? They did make him put on some more normal shorts for the medal ceremony though.

The US Open Cup 3rd Round launches with one game last night and the rest tonight-
Tuesday:
Salt Lake 2-1 Virginia Beach - RSL wins in overtime on an Andy Williams goal. Salt Lake scored first when Jamie Watson took a dive in the box (what else can the boy do - nothing obviously - nice pic of flop in article linked above) and Jeff Cunningham converted the pk. But VB equalized on a goal by Tim O'Neill. Unlike last year when RSL was bounced by my Minnesota Thunder 6-4, this year they move on.
Wednesday:
Columbus v Michigan
Seattle v Carolina
Atlanta v Wilmington
Chivas USA v Dallas Roma
Kansas City v Des Moines
Rochester v New Hampshire
Portland v Charleston
(the 8 winners of the above matches will join 8 more MLS teams in the 4th round draw, with those games taking place on August 2)

got to say, im absolutely gutted. Currently running a little spread bet which included Rangers doing this quadruple the blue half of Glasgow have been talking about. Looks like the value of my £10 initial bet will have diminished significantly after last nights performance....
