Ride The News

Watch it tonight: USA v Jamaica at 7pm eastern time from Cary NC live on ESPN2
~ ~ ~ ~
Andrea Canales previews USA v Jamaica for Soccernet, and especially looks at the USA players that are sitting on that edge of making the WC team or not.
~ ~ ~ ~
The Jamaica Gleaner brings us up to date on the USA v Jamaica history. First and foremost, the USA has never lost to the Reggae Boyz.
~ ~ ~ ~
Lots of video and audio pre-Jamaica match from the great folks at US Soccer.

From Soccer America comes a depressing stat that ought to really bother the folks that run FC Dallas: The DALLAS CUP U-19 Super Group opening day drew 17,105 fans to Pizza Hut Park Stadium as Manchester United downed Real Madrid, 3-2, and the Dallas Texans Red beat Mexico's Tigres, 3-2. So Man U, Real Madrid & Tigres youth teams draw better than the home town top flight team. Not good.

MLSnet takes reader questions for MLS commissioner Don Garber, who then turns around and answers those very questions.

Landon Donovan is not feeling so hot about his Galaxy after having accrued 1 point from 2 home games: “I honestly feel like I’m on a high school team sometimes with the decisions people are making and the things people are doing. We were able to hide things a lot last year because we put together four good games at the end of the year, but it doesn’t hide the fact that we have some issues.” (from the Press Enterprise)

Another disgruntled MLSer is Dallas' Ronnie O'Brien. He did not even suit up for the win last Saturday and told reporters to ask the coach why he wasn't on the team. Rumors say he is going to NY in exchange for their unhappy midfielder Amado Guevara, but the players agent says no dice. Stay tuned to 3rd Degree for all the details.
~ ~ ~ ~
Also according to 3rd Degree, Argentine left back Marcos Charras is in Dallas and set to sign on with FCD. His last club was CSKA of Bulgaria.

Yesterday I had the note from Dell'apa about Alexi Lalas leaving New York to run the Los Angeles Galaxy. Michael Lewis at Big Apple Soccer hears the same thing, and also hears that if Lalas goes so might coach Mo Johnston who could be replaced by Italian star and former Metrostar Roberto Donadoni (who was in New York for the Red Bulls home debut).

Steve Davis in the Dallas Morning News says Carlos Ruiz is out at least two weeks with a hamstring injury. Bad news for FC Dallas cuz he has been drawing the defenses and allowing his teammates time and space to score.

Ives Galarcep with his weekly look at all things Red Bull for the North Jersey Herald.

Big Apple Soccer, like many others this week, chats with NY keeper Tony Meola about gaining USA cap #100.

USA Today examines the plight of John O'Brien. From Ajax to Den Haag to Chivas USA. All with injuries that led him to play almost no games since the last World Cup.

Soccer America asks 3 questions of Dallas defender Greg Vanney.

Don Cuddy of Soccer365 went to New York for the Red Bull debut. Here are his thoughts.

Mark Bechtel of Sports Illustrated went too.

How anemic are things with the MLS team in Denver these days?: We never hear much news on a national level about the Colorado Rapids. They have their season opener and only draw 12k. And the two local papers have stringers cover the game. I would love to hear from some fans in Denver to give us their feelings on this.
~ ~ ~ ~
Jamie Moreno was named MLS Player Of the Week.
~ ~ ~ ~
Thierry Henry has split from his sponsorship deal with Nike to sign with Rebok.

How great would it be to attend this game?: Mexico v Venezuela at the Rose Bowl on Cinco de Mayo! Now that would be fun!

Guus Hiddink says he will coach Russia. Must be a LOT of money.

Arjen Robeen came in late during Chelsea's route of West Ham last weekend, and within minutes took a huge dive to draw a free kick that led to a goal. Some one needs to do something about this punk and his antics. I mean, really do something. He needs to be taught a deep lesson. Hopefully the league steps in.

Francesco Totti is going to start training next week. His injury was obviously not as bad as projected. Will he be ready?

My guy Ronaldo tore a muscle in his right thigh. He will be out for up to three weeks. Bad timing buddy. Will he be ready?

As much as I love Manchester United fans passion for their team, and dedication to demand the best, sometimes I wish they would shut up about the Glazer family who own the club. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a secret boner for old Malcolm, but these fans go off on everything before they even wait to see what will happen. A classic example is when the teams shirt sponsor Vodaphone decided not to renew their deal for 4 years and 40 million pounds. Critics went insane declaring the end of the team as we know it. Turns out Vodaphone did not renew their deal cuz the price was not 40 million. It was more. AIG paid 56 million for 4 years. I wish some of these people would shut up once in a while and wait to see what really happens instead of wild guessing (and acting like the guessing is based on something factual.) The BBC has a report on the current state of the club. Despite the fact that they have a huge debt to pay off (a brutally bad idea in my book), the future of the team still looks pretty rosy to me.

What is your source on Henry leaving Nike? He seems to be a pretty big part of their "Joga Bonito" campaign.
