The Wand News

-My pal Andy at the fabulous Minnesota Thunder fan site Blue Sky Soccer, has recently unearthed and published his France 98 World Cup travel journal. It's a very cool read.
-Jeff Carlisle of Soccernet talks to Houston headmaster Oliver Luck about his new team. Did you know that Luck and MLS Commish Don Garber were cronies at NFL Europe?
-The qualifying draw for Euro 2008 will take place on Jan 27.
-The partying is still going on down in Sao Paolo after winning the World Club Championship and their top striker is hitting the road. Marcio Amoroso is signing with AC Milan to replace the dearly departed stiff Christian Vieri.
-The last 2 Italian TIM Cup round of 16 matches were played last night. The scores:
Cittadella 0-0 Lazio - Lazio advances 2-0 on aggregate
Inter 0-0 Parma - Inter advances 1-0 on aggregate
Quarterfinal rounds will be played Jan 25 & Feb 1. The draw will be held soon.
-Soccer Americas' two latest editions of MLS Confidential have lots of great little bits of info. One - and - Two
-Yesterday we had thoughts from Buzz Carrick at 3rd Degree about Interliga. Today we read from another Du Nord favorite Andrea Canales on the subject.
-Interliga finals at the HDC on Sunday, with the two winners qualifying for the Copa Libertadores:
Tigres v Monterrey
Veracruz v Guadalajara
-Miami FC has named Brazilian Chiquinho de Assis as their first ever head coach.
-Big Euro matches this weekend:
Roma v Milan - an old fashioned Italian face off - Sunday on GolTV at 2pm central time.
Man City V Man Utd - the boneheaded derby of all boneheaded derby's - Saturday on Fox Soccer Channel at 6:30am central time.
Blackburn v Bolton - in a mini-derby - Saturday on Fox Soccer Channel at 11am central time.
-The place will only seat 200, but the new grounds for the PSV youth teams is gorgeous. Check it out now.
-Chicago fan site, The Fire Alarm, is reporting a rumor that original team member Jesse Marsch could be joining his old coach Bob Bradley at Chivas USA.
-Rich Fidler of the Hunt Park Insider sits down with Columbus coach Sigi Schmid. Still no word though on when Sigi is going to give birth to his baby.
-Due to an ankle injury, Michael Essien will NOT be playing for Ghana in the African Nations Cup. I bet he plays for Chelsea though.
