Some News For You To Gnaw On

-Preston North End joins West Ham in the Championship League playoff final on May 30. The winner is promoted to the Premiership. The loser stays put. That is quite a big prize. Preston drew 0-0 with Derby, and won 2-0 on aggregate. Our Eddie Lewis has been a real driving force for Preston all year, and it would be cool to see him get a chance to go storming down the left wing torching Gary Neville next season.
-American youngster Danny Karbassiyoon confirmed to USSoccerUK via email that he has been released by Arsenal.
-Manchester City cut Steve McManaman loose from the team.
-Pablo Mastroeni has a thigh muscle injury and will not be playing for the USA next week against England. Kerry Zavagnin will take his spot. I love watching Pablo play.
-37,000 tickets have been sold for the USA-England match.
-At times of the season like now and in December, England is goes nuts with transfer rumors. It pains me at how dumb it all gets. But this one I just like the sound of (even though it holds no credence): Sunderland want giant striker Jan Koller as they step up to the Premiership. I love watching Jan Koller play for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. He really seems to have fun out there, and he looks somewhat elegant doing the job at 6'7". Thankfully he's not as geeky and awkward as that overrated lame-ass stringbean Peter Crouch (the Gheorghe Muresan of soccer.) By the way, Koller says he wants to stay at Dortmund, so what's the point.
-Even more Landycakes in USA Today. This time with his main squeeze and his two lil doggies.
-Colorado have let Mark Chung go so that he could sign with San Jose. Chung told Dylan Hernandez of the San Jose Mercury News that he wanted out of Denver, "I asked for it. I wasn't happy here."
-Frank Dell'apa has a huge expose on Clint Dempsey in today's Boston Globe. (4 web pages long!)
-In Mexico City, Club America took round one (of two) from Cruz Azul 3-1. Crybabeoc Blanco scored 2. The second leg of the MFL semifinal is Sunday. Tecos play Morelia on Saturday in the other semi.
