The Commish Knows His Punk Rock Lore
While discussing team names in MLS, and how they are slowing becoming more "soccer traditional" League Commissioner Don Garber said:
"These are soccer teams. And if they're trying to look like the type of club the soccer fan is used to seeing, then more than likely those teams aren't called 'the Clash.' That could be the name of a rock band -- and it was, a very good one too.''

I'm a little confused about the commish's props concerning the only band that matters.
Garber is quoted in an AP story (http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news?slug=ap-mlspreview&prov=ap&type=lgns) as saying:
"And if they're trying to look like the type of club the soccer fan is used to seeing, then more than likely those teams aren't called 'the Clash.' That could be the name of a lacrosse team. That could be the name of a rock band -- and was."
Didn't say it was a good one. Did you get this quote from another source than the AP, there's no credit in your posting.
Be happier if he did like them. Wonder if he liked "Sandinista", though...
ok ok michael
busted!
i confess to gussying up the pig
i do it all the time
that's the optimist in me
just wanting every quote to go all the way
i also confess to almost never crediting anyone else, thus making me look like a fabulous reporter, and something of a genius
and sandanista is my favorite clash album!
