MLS 30 Potential Breakout Players For 2013: Week 8 Review

We made a list before the season started of 30 MLS players who we felt had the potential to have a breakout season in 2013. We will track these players week to week to see who actually does "Breakout."

Week 8 Review:
Juan Agudelo - out injured.
Alex - on the bench but didn't play.
Eric Avila - played the full 90 in a losing effort, and stats say he was fouled 10 times! But did not contribute to any sustained attack.
Steve Beitashour - finally back from injury and played the full 90 minutes in his usual involved style.
Jerry Bengston - went the full 90 but too shots, niether of which was on target, and too few touches are not going to get it done.
Claudio Bieler - WED: started and played 74 minutes but wasn't terribly productive. SAT: played the full 90 but couldn't get much going.
Alex Caskey - came on as a sub in the final 20 minutes and was fairly active.
Michael Farfan - started and went 68 minutes having an average game.
Gabriel Farfan - killed time for the final 3 minutes of the game.
Diego Fagundez - started and played 61 fairly unproductive minutes.
Perry Kitchen - went the full 90 and scored a nice goal (the 2nd of his career) but needs to add more offense to his game.
Mikey Lopez - WED: not in uniform. SAT: was not in uniform.
Darren Mattocks - came on as a sub in the 58th min and had an ok performance.
Kenny Miller - not in uniform.
Mario Martinez - on the bench.
Jack McInerney - played 77 very good minutes, scoring 2 goals, the first of which was great, beating two defenders and the keeper. Named Player Of The Week by the league.
Kekuta Mennah - on the bench.
Justin Meram - not in uniform.
Amobi Okugo - went the whole game and was decent, made his contribution by setting up a goal.
Martin Rivero - not in uniform
Oriol Uri Rosell - WED: went the full 90 keeping busy, playing simple and solid. SAT: played the first have but was not his usual efficient self out there.
Kelyn Rowe - played the whole game but was not effective.
Chris Schuler - played the full match and had a fairly quiet day as they won. NOTE: he suffered a broken left hand that required surgery. No word on if he will miss any games.
Luis Silva - got the start and went 74 minutes and was in the thick of it.
AJ Soares - started but was burned for the first goal and then got injured and subbed out in the 18th minute.
Bakary Soumare - not in uniform.
*Zarek Valentin
Diego Valeri - started and played 76 min, scoring a good opportunistic goal as they tied on the road.
Jose Villareal - on the bench.

MLS 30 Potential Breakout Players For 2013: Week 7 Review

We made a list before the season started of 30 MLS players who we felt had the potential to have a breakout season in 2013. We will track these players week to week to see who actually does "Breakout."

Week 7 Review:
Juan Agudelo - came off the bench and played the last 32 minutes, but needs to contribute more to the offense.
Alex - was not in uniform.
Eric Avila - played the whole game and was incredibly active, but not good enough.
Steve Beitashour - out injured.
Jerry Bengston - went the distance but the whole team appeared to be asleep.
Claudio Bieler - bye week.
Alex Caskey - played the entire game, but really needs to step up for this team.
Michael Farfan - came on as a sub in the 65th minute.
Gabriel Farfan - in uniform on the bench but did not play.
Diego Fagundez - dressed but did not play in a game where his team could have used some offense.
Perry Kitchen - played the entire game as usual but they were beaten comprehensively.
Mikey Lopez - bye week.
Darren Mattocks - came on as a sub with 27 minutes left to play.
Kenny Miller - out injured.
Mario Martinez - played 7 minutes and appears to be in the dog house.
Jack McInerney - went the whole game taking several shots, being dangerous, and scoring the game tier very late. His 4th goal of the season.
Kekuta Mennah - played the final 17 minutes.
Justin Meram - not on game day roster.
Amobi Okugo - played the entire match.
Martin Rivero - out injured.
Oriol Uri Rosell - bye week.
Kelyn Rowe - played 90 contributing nothing.
Chris Schuler - went the distance as they got a road tie. Picked up his 1st yellow card of the season.
Luis Silva - started and played 73 minutes, but didn't do much. I think his team needs to get him closer to the goal to succeed.
AJ Soares - went the full 90 and at least they kept a clean sheet.
Bakary Soumare - not in uniform.
*Zarek Valentin
Diego Valeri - out injured
Jose Villareal - played the last 45 minutes but joined the rest of his teammates in being fairly ineffective.
Sal Zizzo - out injured.

30 MLS Potential Breakout Players For 2013: Week 5 Review

We made a list before the season started of 30 MLS players who we felt had the potential to have a breakout season in 2013. We will track these players week to week to see who actually does "Breakout."

30 breakout players For 2013: Week 5 Review
Juan Agudelo - had a great set up for teammate Avila who had his shot saved, then got hurt and had to come off in the 34th minute. Looks to be his hamstring.
Alex - bye week.
Eric Avila - played very good the whole game, scoring the winning goal on a beautiful 1st time volley (GOTW nominee), and came close to another one.
Steve Beitashour - out injured.
Jerry Bengston - started and went the whole 90.
Claudio Bieler - played the whole game and had his chances, converting nicely for the games first goal. Probably should have done a little better, but still pretty good.
Alex Caskey - on the bench.
Michael Farfan - went the full 90, and had a solid game.
Gabriel Farfan - was not in uniform for this game.
Diego Fagundez - played 85 minutes on the field, but you have to wonder if he isn't still too young to be a starter week in and week out.
Perry Kitchen - bye week.
Mikey Lopez - not on the bench this week.
Darren Mattocks - played another full 90 and was again disappointing. Having 6 shots but none on goal. Also appears to have a sprout coming out of the top of his head.
Kenny Miller - came on as a sub in the 57th min and did a great job following up a on rebounded shot to jab home a diving header goal. (His 2nd of the season.) Looked really good out there.
Mario Martinez - did not suit up after again returning fairly late from the international break.
Jack McInerney - started and went 80 minutes but could not get the job done, getting off two shots that were not on target.
Kekuta Mennah - came on for the final 10 minutesw of the game in the midfield. I think his speed would make him a better option up top late in the game.
Justin Meram - bye week.
Amobi Okugo - played the whole game and was decent, but not great. Beaten for the game winning goal by Henry.
Martin Rivero - out injured.
Oriol Uri Rosell - came off just as the game went to 2nd half stoppage time, did a decent job holding down the fort.
Kelyn Rowe - did pretty good covering a lot of ground in a 30 minute substitue performance, but was given a yellow card.
Chris Schuler - went the distance at centerback again, and pairing up with Nat Borchers can only help.
Luis Silva - made his season debut as he came on for the last 18 minutes of the game and made a difference, setting up what ended up being the tying goal.
AJ Soares - played the whole game, but needs to do better on his clearances - game up 3 corner kicks, which is not good enough for a starting centerback.
Bakary Soumare - on the outs with the team, and has asked to be traded.
*Zarek Valentin
Diego Valeri - played the whole game as they got another tie, this time on the road.
Jose Villareal - subbed in with 20 minutes to go and scored the game tying goal, which should be the Goal of the Week, and potential Goal of the Year candidate. Outstanding.
Sal Zizzo - not on the bench.

*Loaned to Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt for the 2013 season.
